Peace Week 2013 and World Peace Flame, NL

Peace Week 2013During the Peace week (21-29 September) the cities of Enschede, Eindhoven and Cadzand are organising activities in which the World Peace Flame is a key component. These include intercultural activities, a meeting for reflection, a  peace relay and a World Peace Flame ceremony.
The activities include:

Enschede, NL
Saturday 21 September 
Celebration of the United Nations Peace Day.
The theme is ‘Working for Peace’. How do we achieve peace all around us: at school, in our local neighbourhood and in the wider world?
How do we get away from ‘us-them’ thinking during Peace Week? By reflection, dance and a peace ceremony with the World Peace Flame!

Wednesday 18 September
The inauguration World Peace Flame in the Maria Magdalenakerk of the Old Catholic Church Community, Boschdijk 354, Eindhoven (entrance on Jan Duikerlaan; car parking there or on the Boschdijk)
The programme includes:
17:00 Soup and rolls
17:45 Festive light and peace ceremony
18:45 Walk to join the yearly procession of the 18 September Foundation to the Town Hall, with a talk by the mayor.

Saturday 21 September
Peace market with candles and information about the World Peace Flame and its activities.
Start: 13:00

Saturday 21 September
Peace event on the Mariënburgplein.
13.30 The WPF will be carried on a walk from the World Peace Flame monument to there. Participants on this walk are invited to bring their own flames. WPF stall on the peace market.

Province of Zeeland, NL

Sunday 22 September 
Children’s Relay with the World Peace Flame from Cadzand to Oostburg for the opening of the Peace Week.
The relay is organised in collaboration with a number of local churches.

As introduction to the Peace Week, visit by the mayor to children working with the World Peace Flame educational package.

Tuesday 24 September
The World Peace Flame is presented to the city council at the start of the World Peace Flame educational project.
