"KyrieA musical gesture of friendship and support. Like everyone, we were shocked by the news of the tragic events in Oslo and Utøya. When one hears of such horrors taking place it is always a challenge to know how to reach out and to respond in such a way that can bring some help and comfort to all. Can individuals do this?

As Eleanor Roosevelt said, ‘It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it.

Composer Tom Dicke (1984) as an ambassador of the World Peace Flame Foundation responded by writing a short composition for four part choir ‘Kyrie for Norway’. Together we reached out via several social media networks to find as many professional singers as possible, inviting them to perform the Kyrie together. Within two days, over seventy singers gathered in St John’s Cathedral in ‘s Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, the clergy of which kindly offered to help by organizing a memorial service. The Service was attended by some 800 people who were invited to light candles afterwards to send peace and healing to all.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu sent a message of support to the World Peace Flame Foundation and the people of Norway which was read during the ceremony.

The music performance has been recorded, and we present on the right side of this page.

We are very grateful to all who helped organize this, but our greatest wish is that all the people in Norway and especially the families and friends of the victims will receive this musical message of love and light. You can help us by sending the link to your network.
